Immigration Fees Increase (USCIS)

Form I-485, Immigration Cost, Permanent Residence

Immigration Fee Increases Begin (USCIS) U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) announced the Immigration Fee Increases published in the Federal Register. The adjusted fees required for most immigration applications and petitions will take effect on Dec. 23. USCIS is funded almost entirely by fees paid by applicants and petitioners for immigration benefits. The law requires USCIS to conduct fee reviews every two years to determine the funding levels needed to administer the nation’s immigration laws, process claims for benefits, and provide the infrastructure needed to support these activities. The rate increases are the first in six years. The increase is necessary to recover the full costs of services provided by USCIS. This includes costs related to fraud detection and national security; customer service and case processing; and provide free of charge to refugee and asylum seekers and other eligible clients to fee waivers. Applications and petitions received by mail or filed on or after December 23 must include the new fees or else USCIS will not be able to accept them. To prevent your application from being rejected and returned, ensure that it is sent with enough time to arrive before December 23, 2016.
